Eat yourself healthier this winter

Eating a balanced diet can help you keep warm and healthy this winter. The benefits may include:

  • boosting your immune system
  • helping you fight off colds
  • making you feel more energetic
  • reducing your blood pressure and risk of heart disease and stroke

Some of the best ways to achieve this are to:

  • have at least one hot meal a day
  • have hot drinks throughout the day and one before bedtime
  • keep a flask with a hot drink in it by your bed in case you feel cold at night
  • concentrate on foods that are high in fibre and low in sugar, salt and fat
  • have at least five portions of fruit or vegetables each day
