Pensioners urged to secure Pension Credit before 6 October
The Department for Work and Pensions is reaching out to some 250,000 older people, urging them to claim their Pension Credit.
Pension Credit ensures that no pensioners aged 60 or over even those who own their own homes live on less than £124.05 a week.
Pensioners who claim Pension Credit before 6 October could earn up to a year's backdated benefits.
Pensions Minister Mike O'Brien said: "It's vital that older people claim money that's rightfully theirs to help with their day-to-day needs."
Pension Credit may be claimed by calling The Pension Service on 0800 99 1234. Lines are open from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday.
